I just read in the SF Chronicle that Cal may play next season at Candlestick Park while Memorial Stadium undergoes its $200 million renovation: http://tinyurl.com/6rfs3s. Just when and where the team moves will possibly be decided by the UC Board of Regents today. The decision will largely be based on the well-publicized seismic safety issues at Memorial Stadium.
While I'm excited about the fact that the renovation is FINALLY moving forward (good riddance, tree huggers!), I'm not thrilled about Candlestick (yes, I refuse to use the corporate brand name).
First, it's farther away, much farther, and not easily accessible via BART. Second, the parking and traffic conditions are as bad if not worse than in Berkeley -- particularly if you're traveling to the Stick via the Bay Bridge. Third, it can be very cold and windy there. Ok, that may sound wimpy, but it makes a difference. And most importantly, there is no Henry's for a pre- and/or post-game party. For me, Henry's is a long-standing Cal football day tradition, and I'll miss it.
Granted, I know that they need to play somewhere. And, I suspect that while the Oakland Coliseum is more convenient from a transportation perspective, it would probably be worse for a number of other reasons.
I guess we'll just have to grin-and-bear it while waiting for our beloved Memorial Stadium's face lift to be completed.

PS. I decided to skip right over the Oregon State game. Too depressing.
